Property Tax Deadline

 

Property Taxes are due by Friday, February 28, 2020 (postmarked by February 29, 2020) without interest and penalty.

 

2019 TAXES

2019 county taxes are due and payable through Friday, February 28, 2020 (postmarked by February 29, 2020). In accordance with state law, interest in the amount of 1.5% will be added per month beginning March 1, 2020.

All 2019 Tax Relief Applicants must pay their taxes and use their Tax Relief vouchers by April 5, 2020.

 

2018 TAXES

2018 property taxes are delinquent. Interest of 19.5% is added the month of March. This amount is in compliance with the state law. You are advised that after March 29, 2020 additional interest and costs will be imposed in consequence of suits to be filed for the enforcement of a lien against land for property taxes. Until the filing of such suits, taxes may be paid in our office. All unpaid 2018 taxes will be filed with the delinquent tax attorney on April 1, 2020.

A convenience fee of 2.75% is charged to the cardholder for processing a credit/debit card payment or a flat $2.75 for an e-check payment. None of this fee is retained by Sullivan County. You will have an opportunity to see what the fee will be before completing your payment.

 

What happens if I miss the tax payment deadline?

From the first day of each month beginning March 2, 2020, interest of 1.5 percent per month (18 percent annually) is added to your base tax amount. If the Post Office fails to postmark your payment by the date due, it is considered a late payment. This applies even if you mail your payment on time. For mail-in payments, office meter dates are not accepted. Online property tax payments are recognized as paid on the date of the online transaction.

 

The Trustee’s office is located on the first floor of the historic Sullivan County Courthouse in downtown Blountville. We are the first office on the left when you enter the main entrance of the courthouse. Our office hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. except designated holidays.
