Responsibilities of the Circuit Court Clerk

The Circuit Court Clerk of Sullivan County maintains a Circuit, Law, General Sessions and Juvenile Court system.
The Clerk’s Office is responsible for the management of all complaints, petitions, summonses, orders and other documents relating to lawsuits or criminal actions filed in the court; the collection, receipt, and accounting for litigation taxes, fines, fees, and restitutions as ordered by the courts; the issuing of warrants, executions, subpoenas and other documents as assigned by law; the preparations of reports to the County and State of Tennessee; and the disbursement of funds to litigants, the County, and the State of Tennessee.
The Clerk’s Office is responsible for processing the work of the Grand Jury, billing for jury and witness fees, maintaining the daily minutes for all courts of record, cataloging and securing of all exhibits and preparation of all appeal records for transfer to appropriate courts.
The Clerk in the General Session and Juvenile Courts schedules all cases including traffic violations for the court dockets, maintains paperwork and collects fines and costs relating to the cases.
Child support issues can be both civil and criminal in nature. The records are maintained by the Clerk in the appropriate court.
