Responsibilities of the Public Defender

A public defender is a licensed attorney appointed by the court to represent individuals who cannot afford private legal counsel. Their primary duty is to ensure that every person accused of a crime receives a fair trial, regardless of financial status. Public defenders provide legal advice, investigate cases, negotiate plea deals, and advocate for their clients in court. They play a vital role in upholding the constitutional right to legal representation and promoting justice within the legal system.
