Responsibilities of SCSWCD
- Conservation & Stewardship
- Protect and enhance soil, water, and agricultural resources to support long-term sustainability and preserve Sullivan County’s natural heritage.
- Programs & Services
- Provide technical assistance, cost-share programs, and conservation planning in partnership with the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Tennessee Department of Agriculture (TDA), and National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA).
- Deliver education and outreach through school programs, contests, workshops, and community events.
- Best Management Practices (BMPs)
- Guide landowners and producers in implementing proven practices that improve productivity and sustainability, including:
- Soil Health: cover crops, filter strips, grade stabilization
- Water Quality: grassed waterways, stream buffers, sediment control basins
- Livestock Management: exclusion fencing, prescribed grazing systems, heavy-use areas
- Infrastructure: crossings and watering facilities
- Governance & Oversight

- The SCSWCD Board of Supervisors governs district programs, represents community interests, sets conservation priorities, and ensures accountability. Current SCSWCD Board of Supervisors Members Include:

- Forrest Ramsey – Member The SCSWCD Board of Supervisors meets regularly each month at the Blountville office located at 2942 Highway 394, Suite 1. All meetings are open to the public and are published on the County Calendar.
