Maintenance Department Emergency Operations in Response to COVID-19

During this time, The County Maintenance Department wants to be available and accessible to the needs of our Sullivan County Buildings but limit as much personal contact as possible until further notice.

Communications

Staff will continue to be available through email (cindy.stewart@sullivancountytn.gov) and phone (423-323-6405) as usual.

County Maintenance

We will be continuing maintenance for county property and cleaning services for county buildings unless we cannot control personal contact.

Meetings

We are limiting group meetings to either phone conferencing, Zoom or similar platforms. We will notify all those who are scheduled for upcoming meetings now to submit information to staff so that we can provide necessary advice and guidance. We will have a drop box that will allow you to drop paperwork, etc… prior to our meeting.

General information

We would like to keep from directly interfacing with the public.  At this time our team is currently working to keep our facilities clean.

We hope you will understand these decisions considering current public health risks. If you have questions or other concerns regarding operations or staff availability, please let us know by contacting our office at 423-323-6405 or you can email to cindy.stewart@sullivancountytn.gov

As we do our best to be responsive, we will be adapting as situations change. This may cause a delay and some confusion may occur. Please bear with us as we work through these changes together. Please check our website for further updates and watch for further updates through news and social media as we adapt to operate in serving our citizens of Sullivan County.

Responsibilities of County Buildings

The purpose of this department is to provide routine maintenance to the various buildings of Sullivan County general government and to provide safe and sanitary facilities for county employees from which to serve the public.

Request Form for Building Maintenance

Primary Responsibilities

The goal of the Maintenance Department is to provide quality, cost-effective, and timely custodial and maintenance repair services for the Sullivan County Courthouse Complex in Blountville, the Sullivan County Office Building, the Blountville and Bristol Justice Centers, and the Health Department in Kingsport. It also provides vehicle maintenance for miscellaneous smaller department fleets of vehicles including EMS ambulances. Responsibilities for the school facilities, highways and the jail are assigned to the respective departments.

The cleaning service is provided by full-time and part-time county employees for all private offices with assistance from the “Community Service Program” in coordination with the General Sessions Courts and the County Maintenance Department. The “Community Service Program” routinely provides a work detail supervised by an employee of the maintenance department, while other details are supervised with part-time workers to conduct the cleaning of public areas and grounds maintenance. The day worker program has expanded the services of the County Maintenance Department without increasing full-time employees, while reducing inmates in the county jail.
